Alison Murray

Illustrator: mentor in 2023

Alison Murray is an author-illustrator based in Glasgow. She has been making picture books since 2010 and has several books published internationally. Alison studied printed textiles at The Glasgow School of Art, screen prints for fun and makes her illustration work digitally by layering handmade marks and printed textures.

Alison mentored Rebecca Guthrie

“Rebecca and I met several times over the year for coffee and chatted about her ideas and drawings. She is a very busy woman producing radio shows for the BBC but amazingly fits in her illustration work too. I didn’t do much but give support and encouragement. Rebecca came with drawings in pencil and paint; we explored how working digitally can enable a freeing and loosening up, allowing you to make mistakes and experiment. I hope Rebecca took away some digital skills to compliment her painterly work and to make the best of both worlds. There’s a quirky imaginative edge to Rebecca’s ideas that I’m sure she will develop further with the right publisher.”
